bought one of these integrated units in a nice wood case, with a clean front, in an auction a few months back. I called Audio Classics to see what they would charge to restore it. I was quoted $800 or about that. He said it would be restored to the original factory specs. I don't doubt that and I trust them. That is not my issue.
In reading some of the threads on this sight about the MA 5100, I learned some folks' opinions were that the 4100 and 6200 are preferred. Also, that the 5100 is a little noisy. I was planning to drive two sets of speakers, and I didn't realize until today that the 5100 has only speaker connections for one set of speakers. The power, 45 wpc at 8 ohms, doesn't concern me as I plan to use it with AR 4x or 3a speakers in my study. That will be plenty of power.
I am having second thoughts on having this unit rebuilt. I don't want to spend money on restoring it if I am not going to be happy with it. What is your opinion and why? Thanks.
